We are seeking an Inventory Specialist to join our Parts Super Center team in Indianapolis, IN!

The DC Inventory & Locations Specialist responsible for the item product shelf slotting. This position also maintains shelf accuracy of product in the warehouse and helps to resolve product related problems to meet company standards of safety, security, and productivity.  This role is responsible for providing improvement suggestions for Rack layout, Product location slotting, Warehouse Management Software, process, and system changes.  This function assists with all customer service activities as related to the distribution center interface, such as responding to inquiries, processing orders and handling complaints in a prompt, courteous, and effective manner.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Must behave consistently with the Company’s Core Competencies, Polices, Procedures and focus on safety
  • Assigns product to appropriate rack (or storage) type, distribution center zone, area and location within the zone, and final shelf location on the rack
  • Follows the overall distribution center plan for product based on product characteristics, size, weight, shipping demand, re-order frequency) pick sequence and user (stocker, picker) ergonomic
  • Ensures the plan design provides the shortest pick path for any order and the least amount of vertical movement by user. Where possible, maintains similar product characteristic in vendor diverse locations
  • Utilizes both Radio Frequency (RF) hand-held devices and Warehouse Management Software (WMS) dashboard screens to perform Zone Re-profile, location maintenance, Product location “Slotting” based on item velocity and DC “Slotting” model, new product processing, Vendor Returns, Scrap Inventory processing, exception reports (variances, negative, zero & shorts) cycle counting and lost & found product
  • Sign-on to and select the correct work process from a wireless hand-held device
  • Operate all material handling equipment: Forklift, stand-up reach truck, High-Reach Narrow-Aisle, Stand-Up Rider pallet Jack to perform tasks as needed
  • Communicate with vendor buyers about any issues, concerns or needed corrections to item inventory or product
  • Assist with all inventory control tasks accurately and in timely manner per business requirements
  • Ability to perform/ assist all job tasks associated with other warehouse positions
  • Report any damage to electronic hardware, material handling equipment and the Distribution Center immediately to a Supervisor
  • Other duties as assigned

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED preferred 
  • 1+ years of experience in a high volume distribution center


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be able to operate stand-up reach truck, Forklift, stand-Up Rider pallet Jack, and High-Reach Narrow-Aisle
  • Proficiency use of the Warehouse Management Software, ERP, Microsoft Excel, Access, and Outlook
  • Must be willing to be trained on all the following material handling equipment: Forklift, stand-up reach truck, High-Reach Narrow-Aisle that conform to OSHA safety training requirements. Training will be provided by the company as needed
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic math skills to work environment
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to read and understand RF scanning devices
  • Occasional travel to work at other or new Distribution Centers as needed
  • Ability to work overtime as needed

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to airborne particles due to high levels of dust and dirt. The warehouse environment has no means of temperature control. Therefore, the temperature is dependent upon weather conditions.
