About the role

The Purchasing and Procurement Manager will be responsible for overseeing the procurement process, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring the timely acquisition of goods necessary to meet the needs of our customers. 

This role requires a strategic thinker with strong negotiation skills and a deep understanding of best practice purchasing and procurement practices.

The ideal candidate will work closely with our National, Regional and Branch teams to optimise purchasing strategies, reduce costs, and enhance supply chain efficiency.

Some of your key responsibilities

  • Strategic Procurement Planning:
    • Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with organisational goals.
    • Ensure and maintain a detailed understanding of the product ranges available and manage these based on customer demand and profitability.
    • Work in conjunction with the National Category team and the Regional teams to define and manage the branch assortment
    • Analyse market trends and supplier performance to identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
    • Manage slow moving and dead stock across the Branch Network
  • Supplier Management:
    • Establish and maintain strong relationships with all key suppliers.
    • Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms to secure favourable agreements.
    • Monitor supplier performance and conduct regular evaluations to ensure compliance with agreed quality and delivery standards.
  • Purchasing Operations:
    • Oversee the purchasing process, including requisition approval, order placement, and inventory management.
    • Ensure timely delivery and replenishment of product to meet branch operational needs.
    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders (Regional and Branch Managers) to forecast demand and manage inventory levels effectively.
  • Cost Management:
    • Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives while maintaining product availability and service levels.
    • Prepare and manage the procurement budget, ensuring adherence to financial targets.
  • Compliance and Risk Management:
    • Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and ethical standards in all procurement activities.
    • Assess and mitigate risks associated with the supply chain and procurement processes.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Lead and mentor the procurement team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
    • Provide training and support to team members on procurement best practices and tools.
    • Support the broader Branch Network in understanding the procurement process.
  • Reporting and Analysis:
    • Prepare regular reports on procurement activities, supplier performance, and cost savings for senior management.
    • Utilise data analytics to drive informed decision-making and enhance procurement strategies.

A bit about you

  • Previous experience in purchasing and procurement leadership roles, ideally within wholesale or distribution industry.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Business, Supply Chain Management or a related field would be highly regarded.
  • Well development negotiation and contract management skills.
  • High level analytical and problem-solving abilities with the ability to analyse complex datasets in order to inform buying decisions
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively at all levels
  • Knowledge of industry trends, market dynamics, and supplier landscapes.
  • Electrical industry or building and construction industry experience highly regarded
